After a rather vague announcement a while ago, DICE have confirmed (although still a little vaguely) the further content they plan to make available for Battlefield 4.
Planning to release new content in a slightly different way, we should expect game updates and tweaks, and things like a weapon pack – but also one or two bigger content drops. There appears to be no extension to the existing premium calendar, and no talk of planned 2XP weekends.
Community Map Project
However, there’s a piece of content coming in 2015 that they’re really excited about – DICE LA will build a Battlefield 4 map together with us, the community. Together with their development team, we will get to shape a playable map based on our input and expertise on what makes a fun multiplayer level. This map will then be tested and tweaked in the CTE (Community Test Environment). During this process they’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes details of what the development process for making a multiplayer map looks like.
As a thank you to the Battlefield community, they want to show their appreciation by releasing the “Community Map” as a free download, available to players on all platforms (I’m assuming this also includes those players that don’t have Premium).
When is this all due? Well, this was only announced 4 days ago. According to the CTE Reddit it is at the “Concept Phase”, where they are still gathering ideas. No timescales are given but I’m not expecting this to be available this half of the year.
There appears to be no talk, meanwhile, of the possible “Third Assault” DLC – hopefully we can expect something before the community map (which, after all, is just one map).
One fly in the ointment with the community map, though, is that contributing to this map is only available via the CTE site, essentially limiting this to PC players – once again, console owners are forgotten about.
If you have access to the CTE forum, though, you can feedback here.
